Upper Austria with its strongly technologically oriented economy and a high export rate is among the economically most dynamic regions of Austria. To this, the Johannes Kepler University, situated in the province's capital Linz, and its faculties of legal, social and economic as well as technical and natural sciences, contributes in an essential way through the quality of its research, teaching, and transfer of knowledge. The Faculty of Law, with its classical legal studies, considered itself right from the outset committed to the interconnection of teaching and research for the benefit of the Upper Austrian region. New impulses have been given in 2006/07 by setting up a bachelor study for economic law specialists.
FIDE XXIII Congress Linz 2008 is organised in cooperation with the Austrian Association for European Law which has its seat at the Department for European Integration of the Danube University Krems. Since 1999, the Association annually offers the Jean Monnet Award in European Law for gifted young legal scientists.
